Who are we and what we offer, where.

Who are we.

We are a rural NGO representing the dreams and aspirations of 16 villages of a certain Pokhri block in the south-west of a remote Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. Actually this is the region which gave birth to India’s Environment movement – The Chipko Movement.
Our villages are situated at altitudes ranging between 6,000 – 8,500 feet. The highest point of the region is at about 13,000 feet close to our most revered and famous shrine of Tungnath. Tungnath is the highest of the PanchKedar group of temples, also mentioned in our ancient Ved-Purans.

Rishikesh - Pokhri Route

Pokhri is an unspoilt oasis in south-west Chamoli District. It’s off the main highway and the cruise on a high ridge, curtained by a deep forest, pines giving way to oak and rhododendrons, is a scenic delight. The view of the high Himalayas from here is breathtaking.

It has a steep, terraced hillside, full of lush green crops of wheat, and the small villages along the way
overflow with mustard fields-an utterly charming landscape which gives this place its virginal feel.

What do we offer

We offer truly offbeat holidays on the Himalayas.
The setting is rural, with lots of natural elements sprinkled all around.
You can just take a long, much needed break from the city, living with us in our homes. These are home-stays with simple village families who offer a personal touch to the whole experience.

Write your book, paint, click pictures or do just nothing.

Or you can camp & trek through dense forests, streams & meadows. Rappel down or climb up a rock face, do a yoga course or get some lessons in organic farming.

We offer educational and volunteer trips to school and college students and are equipped to organize outdoor team building programs for corporate groups. We encourage corporates to adopt a village or two under their CSR activities and if possible, connect HR trainings with village development projects.
All this at the most reasonable price, and especially so if you volunteer to help.

What is this life we have dreamt of(For ourselves, our guests and possibly for the whole country)

·         That all human interactions in our villages be based on love, respect, peace and harmony and help us to cultivate compassion towards each other.
·         All our transactions be based on fair trade, sustainability & ethics.
·         We be able to give the highest standards of services to our guests.
·         That our development plan promotes natural resource based enterprises in such a way that poor communities benefit the most but resource exploitation is such that it is sustainable.
·         That we become an example in cleanliness and innovative solid waste management.
·         That we are able to beautify our villages while preserving their original culture in  such a manner that anyone coming within visible range becomes mesmerized even before getting inside the villages.
·         That we are able to grow most of our foods on our lands in an organic and sustainable  manner, and may there be such abundance of fresh & healthy food for all of us including our guests.
·         That we are able to provide quality tourism related services to our guests : Internet cafes/ WiFi, libraries, all cuisines, excellent accommodations,  rental services for mountain bikes, electric scootys, camping & climbing gear etc., all organized adventure sports activities like trekking, camping, rock climbing, rope & obstacle courses, paragliding, water sports, yoga, Ayurveda, naturopathy, meditation, massage, spa etc.
